Abstract:
The SMART DUSTBIN Garbage Monitor circuit is built using an IR sensor, a photo diode, comparator IC LM393, and a relay. The photo diode detects the presence of garbage when it blocks the IR beam. The LM393 processes the signal and triggers an alarm to indicate that the dustbin is full. The circuit design is cost-effective and uses commonly available components for reliable performance.

This circuit is designed to monitor the garbage level in a dustbin. When the garbage level reaches the top and blocks the IR beam, an alarm is triggered. This setup is ideal for smart dustbins in homes, offices, and public spaces, promoting timely waste disposal and cleanliness.

Explained Working of the Circuit:
The SMART DUSTBIN Garbage Monitor detects the blockage of the IR beam by the garbage. When the beam is interrupted, the photo diode stops conducting, and the LM393 comparator processes the input to trigger the relay. The relay activates an alarm, signaling that the dustbin is full. The system remains inactive when the dustbin is not full, ensuring energy efficiency.
How to Build:
- Follow the manual, circuit diagram, and PCB layout.
- Solder the components onto the PCB as per the layout, ensuring proper positioning and polarity.
- Use sockets for ICs to simplify troubleshooting during assembly.
- Begin soldering from one corner of the PCB and proceed sequentially.
- Pay extra attention to components like the photo diode, IR sensor, and capacitors.
Testing the Kit:
After assembling the circuit, connect a 5V DC power source. Simulate a full dustbin by placing an object in the IR beam’s path. The alarm should sound, indicating that the dustbin is full. Adjust the R2 variable resistor to fine-tune the detection sensitivity.
