The Problem :

Example :

Imagine you’re building a small audio amplifier using an op-amp. You accidentally connect the power supply the wrong way. Without protection, the op-amp could burn out. By adding a diode in series with the power input, you ensure that if the power is connected incorrectly, the diode will block the current, preventing damage to your sensitive components.

Sample Calculation : 

For a 12V circuit, a 1N4007 diode can handle up to 1A, making it ideal for protecting most audio circuits.

Using Ohm’s law, you calculate the power loss in the diode as follows:

Power (P) = Voltage (V) x Current (I)
P = 12V x 0.5A = 6W (safe power dissipation for the diode in this setup).
