Imagine you’re designing a motor controller. If your MOSFETs don’t switch properly due to dead-time issues, the motor might run inefficiently or overheat. By tweaking the dead-time (with help from a simple driver IC), you can make sure each MOSFET switches on and off at the perfect time, preventing unwanted overlaps and ensuring smooth motor operation.
Sample Calculation :
If you set the dead-time to 100ns in your driver, and your switching frequency is 100kHz, that’s a small but crucial fraction of the total cycle time (10µs). This ensures smooth transitions without compromising efficiency.
