Reverse Protection for 3.3V Systems

🧩 The Problem :
Accidentally reversing power polarity in a 3.3V system can instantly damage your microcontrollers, sensors, or IoT boards. Unlike 5V systems, 3.3V circuits are more sensitive and have little margin for error.
🛠️ The Solution :
Use a PMOS MOSFET or a Schottky diode for reverse polarity protection. Schottky diodes are preferred for low-voltage systems due to their low forward voltage drop (typically 0.3V), helping maintain operating voltage closer to 3.3V.
👨🔧 Practical Example :
Imagine you’re powering an ESP32 dev board from a homemade 3.3V regulator. One day, the polarity is reversed during a quick test, frying the entire board. A small SS14 Schottky diode in series with the VCC line would’ve prevented this disaster.
🧮 Sample Calculation :
Say your ESP32 draws 200mA:
Power loss = Vf × I = 0.3V × 0.2A = 0.06W
That’s a small price to pay for full reverse protection!
