Most SMPS modules use a voltage divider circuit (typically two resistors) for feedback regulation. By adjusting the feedback resistor values, you can tweak the output voltage. This method is efficient, safe, and doesn’t require changing the core circuit.

 

🔌 Practical Example :

 

Imagine you’re powering a microcontroller board that requires exactly 3.3V, but your SMPS outputs 5V. By recalculating the resistor values in the voltage feedback path, you can tune the output safely down to 3.3V.

 

🧮 Sample Calculation :

 

Let’s assume your SMPS uses the formula:


Vout = Vref × (1 + R1/R2)

If Vref = 1.25V, and you want Vout = 3.3V:

R1/R2 = (3.3 / 1.25) – 1 = 1.64

If R2 = 10kΩ, then R1 ≈ 16.4kΩ (use 16kΩ or nearest standard value).
