By placing a Schottky diode in series with the power supply, the diode will block any reverse current and protect your circuit from damage.

 

Sample Calculation:

 

For a typical 5V solar panel and a Schottky diode with a forward voltage drop of 0.3V, you would need to ensure the diode handles the current draw of your circuit.

If your circuit requires 200mA, the power dissipated across the diode is P = V × I = 0.3V × 0.2A = 0.06W.

Ensure the diode can handle this power to avoid overheating.
