Reverse voltage happens when you mistakenly connect your power supply’s positive lead to the negative terminal and vice versa. This can short-circuit your circuit and burn out parts. To fix this, you can use reverse voltage protection. A simple way to prevent this issue is by using a diode, which only allows current to flow in the correct direction, blocking reverse current.

Imagine you’re powering a robot. If the power supply is connected in reverse, it could fry the control board, leaving your robot inoperable. By adding a diode in series with the power supply, you ensure that only the correct current flows into your robot, protecting it from accidental damage.

 

Simple Calculation : 

 

Let’s say you use a 12V power supply for your robot.

A common diode like the 1N4007 can handle up to 1A of current and has a voltage drop of about 0.7V.

This means for a 12V supply, you’ll have a small loss of 0.7V, leaving your robot with 11.3V.

This is acceptable for most circuits, making the diode a simple and effective protection.
