Sample Calculation :

 

Let’s say your microcontroller draws 100mA of current.

Using the formula for power:

Power (P) = Voltage (V) × Current (I)

For a 5V microcontroller:

P = 5V × 0.1A = 0.5W

This is the power the regulator will need to handle, so ensure it can dissipate this amount safely.
