Abstract:

Alcohol-related accidents are a significant concern due to the harmful consumption of alcohol, leading to approximately 2.3 million premature deaths annually. This project focuses on an advanced alcohol detection system for automobile ignition locking systems using the MQ3 sensor.

The MQ3 sensor detects alcohol content in breath samples and converts this into a readable output, which helps prevent drunk driving by disabling the vehicle’s ignition system if alcohol is detected. The system also includes rolling retests to ensure continuous sobriety.

Working:
This project employs a simple circuit to detect alcohol presence, similar to systems used by law enforcement. The MQ3 sensor outputs a voltage proportional to the alcohol concentration in the air, triggering a buzzer and LED to alert the driver. The circuit operates on a 5V DC supply, regulated by a 7805 IC. Resistors and a potentiometer adjust the sensor’s sensitivity, ensuring optimal performance.
