Say you’re designing a 48V Li-ion battery-powered inverter. During installation, someone connects the terminals backward. If there’s no protection, the MOSFETs, control ICs, and capacitors may get damaged. Add a P-channel MOSFET in reverse-polarity protection mode, and the circuit simply blocks the wrong voltage without blowing anything up.

Assume your system draws 5A. Choose a P-MOSFET with R<sub>DS(on)</sub> = 20 mΩ.
Power loss = I² × R = 5² × 0.02 = 0.5W — very manageable and efficient.
