A Simple GuideImagine plugging in your latest electronics project, only to see smoke because you accidentally swapped the positive and negative wires. This is reverse polarity—a common mistake that fries circuits. For hobbyists, engineers, and prototypers in India, a P-Channel MOSFET offers an easy fix. It acts like a smart gatekeeper, letting current flow only when the polarity is correct, saving your project from disaster.
The Charger Mix-Up
Think of charging your phone. You grab a cheap cable, plug it in backward, and nothing happens—because the phone’s built-in protection kicks in. Without it, the battery could overheat. Similarly, in a DIY LED setup powered by a 12V battery, reverse polarity might burn out your LEDs. Add a P-Channel MOSFET, and it blocks the wrong current flow, keeping your lights shining.
Let’s size that gate resistor.
For a 12V supply, a 10kΩ resistor limits current to
I = V/R = 12/10,000 = 1.2mA
Small enough to keep the MOSFET happy and your power usage low.
