Let’s say your smart alarm runs on a 5V adapter and requires 100mA. If your LDO drops out at 5.2V, even a slight voltage sag could shut it down. A regulator with a dropout of just 0.3V ensures operation down to 5.3V input—solving the problem.

 


🧮 Sample Calculation

 

Power = Voltage × Current
= 5V × 0.1A = 0.5W — always size your power supply to at least 1.5× this value for safety, so aim for 0.75W+ rated output.
