Reverse Polarity Protection in Lighting (Made in India DIY)

⚠️ The Problem :
Reverse polarity—accidentally connecting power supply leads the wrong way—can instantly damage LED lighting circuits. This is a common issue during prototyping or field installations, especially when using barrel jacks or loose wire connections.
✅ The Solution :
You can protect your lighting circuits using a diode-based reverse polarity protection. A Schottky diode or a P-Channel MOSFET in the power path prevents current from flowing the wrong way, protecting LEDs and drivers from burnout.
🧰 Practical Example :
Imagine you’re installing a 12V LED strip in your workshop. You connect the wires in a hurry—and bang, the strip stops working. Adding a 1N5819 Schottky diode in series with the V+ line would have blocked the reverse current, saving your project (and money).
📐 Sample Calculation :
If your LED strip consumes 1A at 12V and you use a Schottky diode with a 0.3V drop:
Power loss = Voltage drop × Current = 0.3V × 1A = 0.3W
Use a diode rated above 1A and at least 0.5W to ensure safe operation.
